Jarrod and Vicky’s Laughter-filled Cambridge College Wedding

Jarrod and Vicky - Girton College Cambridge - Annie Lovett Photography 90We’ve all got to start somewhere so I am delighted and privileged to be able to bring you such a beautiful set of images as my first ever blog post. I came across Vicky and Jarrod’s wedding on the blog of their wonderful photographer Annie Lovett. I was delighted to meet Annie in the run up to launching the blog today and she has offered me so much support over the last few weeks that it really is right that she should be honoured by our first blog post.

Jarrod and Vicky - Girton College Cambridge - Annie Lovett Photography 98Vicky and Jarrod married in August 2014 at Girton College, Cambridge. Vicky told us: “Since Jarrod was studying at Cambridge University we decided that a wedding in a college would be perfect – we also thought it would be great for all of the family and friends coming from overseas. The red bricks of Girton College were an immediate attraction and the staff there made us feel very confident that they would look after us on the day!”

They all looked beautiful on the day in dusky pink and I was proud to have them there.   Despite the long distance, three of Jarrod’s best friends from school made the trip over from Australia and made dashing groomsmen.”

However, as many people find, this is exactly what suited me and I ended up with a beautiful strapless fishtail dress with delicate beading! I was lucky and found the dress in the first bridal shop I visited in Cambridge and when I saw my Mum and friend’s faces I knew it was the one. Unfortunately, I then spent the next few months looking at iphone photos (which are never flattering) and hating the dress. However, when I got it back and tried it on again I loved it and wouldn’t have swapped it for the world!”

Vicky explained that keeping things local was really important to the couple: “I spent hours happily trawling through blogs until I found the best florist and photographer I could… Our photographer, Annie, was an absolute god send.   She became one of the family on the day, making everyone feel comfortable and taking some really beautiful photos.” They used Royston based florist, Tilia Wedding Flowers, to create the beautiful bouquets carried by Vicky and her Maids.

Jarrod and Vicky - Girton College Cambridge - Annie Lovett Photography 15Jarrod and Vicky met at university while Vicky was studying for her PhD: “We met over a Bunsen burner in a science laboratory in London. Jarrod had come across from Australia to work for a few months and helped keep me sane with my PhD. He enjoyed London so much he decided to stay.” The proposal took place in Paris and was nearly ruined when Vicky nicknamed their holiday ‘Our Proposal Weekend’ due to teasing from her friends. Despite feeling that Vicky had ruined the surprise Jarrod still decided to get down on one knee underneath the Eiffel Tower, and Vicky, after all her jesting was still surprised!

Jarrod and Vicky - Girton College Cambridge - Annie Lovett Photography 91Photographer Annie told me “[Jarrod’s] grandad was a legend – 85, first time he had left Australia was to come over for the wedding, and he owned the dancefloor…” This was also the most memorable moment of the wedding day for Vicky and Jarrod who utilised the skills of Jarrod’s cousins DJing for the night. “[They] did a truly cracking job getting everyone up on the dance floor. Dancing with Jarrod’s 85 year old Grandad… and his walking stick/air-guitar was really special!”

Jarrod and Vicky - Girton College Cambridge - Annie Lovett Photography 107“We had the most fantastic day with so many happy memories that the only thing we would change is that we wish it had gone on forever!” finished Vicky. “It’s cliché but our advice would be to just relax and enjoy it! It is so amazing having all your friends and family in one place celebrating with you that even if things don’t go precisely how you had envisioned, everything will be great!”

Just like Vicky I am a bit of a sucker for a red brick building. I absolutely love the laughter and smiles that filled this wonderful day. Congratulations to you both and best of luck for your future in Australia.
